Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church is excited to team up with the Rensselaer County One Stop Career Center, the SUNY Apprenticeship program, the Capital Region Workforce Development Board, and Hoosick Falls Central School to sponsor a second Career & Trade Expo in our community this year.
Employers will be joining us from NY, VT and MA, offering opportunities in a wide variety of sectors, including healthcare, business, manufacturing, education, trades, and more. Pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and workforce development programs will also be on-site. Come with resume in hand, prepared to make your pitch or armed with questions for perspective employers. Students are encouraged to attend.

Known as one of the most influential women of the 20th century, Eleanor Roosevelt (1884– 1962) redefined the role of First Lady and became a champion for human rights around the globe. The Friends of the Bennington Battlefield will be hosting their second annual “Cider and Donuts Tour” at the Caretakers House at 30 Caretakers Road on Saturday, Oct. 25, from noon to 4 p.m. This year’s events feature the popular activities of last year’s program, with some fun new additions. This includes horse and wagon rides, kids activites, pit cooking demonstrations, free cider & donuts, pumpkin painting, and a special tour of the site “Burials at the Battlefield.”

The event, and all activities are free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted, and help the Friends continue to present engaging, family-friendly experiences for all. Parking is available onsite.

Interpretive Programs Assistant, David Pitlykwill present two separate tours, “Burials at the Battlefield.” “Part One” will begin at 12:30 pm, with “Part Two” starting at 1:30 pm. The tours begin at the Caretakers House, and each will run about 1⁄2 hour. Everyone is invited to take both tours. In Part One, David will lead guests around the area near the Barnett House and the Walloomsac River and Part Two will explore locations on the other side of the river, including the “Tory Fort.” The tour will explain how the dead were taken care of after the Battle and how burials were handled by those charged with the task. Yes- the Battlefield is also a cemetery of sorts! There will also be horse and wagon rides along a trail next to the river, and who knows may pop up from the shadows on the ride? Kids activities will include scratch-art pumpkin and leaf ornaments and decorating mini-pumpkins with sticker faces. A new activity will be pumpkin painting presented by Alexandria Crowell, Historic Site Interpreter. Pit cooking demonstrations will be ongoing through the afternoon (samples offered), and free cider and donuts will be available. The event, and all activities are free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted, and help the Friends continue to present engaging, family-friendly experiences for all. Parking is available onsite.
